New business plan to make PIA profitable by 2024

A new business plan aimed to take Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) out of financial crisis has been submitted to the Ministry of Finance for approval.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) worked out the business strategy for the loss-making national flag carrier to turn it into a profitable entity.

The government last year decided to hire international consultants to devise a completely new business strategy to take the national airline out of financial crisis.

The comprehensive plan devised by the IATA envisages the national flag carrier turning into a profit-making organisation by 2024. Under the new strategy, the number of planes in the airline’s fleet will be increased from 29 to 49 while the number of passengers travelling on PIA flights from 5.2 million to 9 million.

The business plan further envisages the total worth of the airline’s assets reaching $2.183 billion from $1.196 bn in 2026.

Prime Minister Imran Khan welcomes step taken by Canadian PM to counter Islamophobia

Prime Minister Imran Khan has welcomed the appointment of a special representative from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to deal with Islamophobia.

In a message from his personal Twitter handle, Imran Khan said that he welcomes Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s unequivocal condemnation of Islamophobia and his plan to appoint a special representative to combat this contemporary scourge.

“His timely call to action resonates with what I have long argued. Let us join hands to put an end to this menace,” he said.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau previously said in a Twitter message: “Islamophobia is unacceptable. Full stop.”

He said that they need to put an end to this hate and make their communities safer for Muslim Canadians. “To help with that, we intend to appoint a Special Representative on combatting Islamophobia.”

Five Kashmiri youngsters martyred by Indian Forces in IIOJ&K

Indian forces in their fresh act of state terrorism on Sunday martyred five Kashmiri youth in Pulwama and Budgam districts of occupied Kashmir.

The troops martyred four youth during a cordon and search operation in the Naira area of Pulwama district and martyred one youth during an operation in Charar-i-Sharief area of Budgam.

Meanwhile, over a dozen Gujar and Bakarwal families are on a sit-in protest after being rendered homeless by the authorities at Roop Nagar in Indian occupied Kashmir.

The Gujjar and Bakerwal families are demanding justice and a shelter to live in, saying their houses stood there for the last 70 years but the authorities demolished their homes.

The families and their lawyer said that the houses were demolished despite a status quo order by a sessions court in Jammu. “They have been deprived only because they are poor people and no one listens to them. If there was rule of law, the authorities would have served them notice before demolition.

PSL 7: Islamabad United beat Peshawar Zalmi by 9 wickets

The Islamabad United has won against Peshawar Zalmi by 9 wickets in the fifth match of seventh edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) that was being played at National Stadium Karachi.

The Islamabad United has marked victory against Peshawar Zalmi by settling the score at 172/1. It was truly a clean win by the team United.

The opening batsmen Paul Stirling and Alex Hales have showcased some smooth batting skills maintaining a steady score rate right from the start. Paul Stirling has left the field after being run out with 57 runs on 25 balls.

Alex Hales has continued playing till the end making 82 runs on 54 balls and Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 27 runs on 16 balls. Rahmanullah  and Alex have been holding up the score that ended with the Islamabad United’s remarkable victory by 9 wickets.

Islamabad United won the toss and elected to bowl first against Peshawar Zalmi.

Peshawar Zalmi were off to a bad start after they lost opener Tom Kohler in first over and Yasir Khan was sent back to the pavilion in the third over by Faheem Ashraf.

Problems for Zalmi further increased after Faheem also claimed wicket of Hussain Talat while Haider Ali was bowled out by Shadab Khan in the sixth over.

Shoaib Malik, who was savior of Zalmi in the last match, was sent to pavilion after scoring only 25 runs on 22 balls.

Islamabad United is playing their first match of the current edition of PSL while Peshawar Zalmi won their opening game against Quetta Gladiators by 5 wickets chased down a big target of 191 with the help of Hussain Talat and their skipper Shoaib Malik.

Islamabad United the only team who won PSL twice, PSL 1 and PSL 3, definitely want to start off their campaign with the winning note.

Islamabad United has the record of set up a biggest total of PSL and that is 247 against Peshawar Zalmi in 2021 at Abu Dhabi.
