PIA has announced fares for Hajj 2023

Fares for the 2023 Hajj pilgrimage have been announced by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA)

Pakistan International Airline (PIA) issued a notification which states that It will begin pre-Hajj operations from June 6 till May 21.

For the first time in history, the national flag carrier will charge fares in US dollars from private Hajj pilgrims. The PIA has set $1180 fare for private Hajj pilgrims.

The airfares for the pilgrims from Southern region and Northern region are likely to remain in the range of $810 to $1,100 and $860 to $1,150 respectively, according to PIA.

Pilgrims travelling through the executive economy class would be allowed to carry 40kg baggage and seven-kilogramme hands carry luggage. Moreover, passengers travelling through the economy class would be allowed to carry 35kg baggage and seven-kilogramme hands carry luggage.

Earlier, it emerged that the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has decided to allocate a 25 per cent special quota in the Government Hajj Scheme for the pilgrims who will deposit dues in dollars.

The ministry also decided that the intending pilgrims, depositing dues in dollars, would be exempted from the balloting under the new Hajj policy, official sources said on Friday.

They said about 22,400 pilgrims would benefit from the ‘Sponsorship Scheme’ being introduced by the ministry in the wake of the current foreign exchange reserves in the country.

US warns of severe cost to Russia if it invades Ukraine

The United States has warned Russia of swift and severe costs if it further invades Ukraine.  

This came as US President Joe Biden held a telephonic conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin about escalating military build-up on Ukrainian border.

According to White House, President Biden urged the Russian President to engage in de-escalation and diplomacy.

Meanwhile, in a press briefing, Russia’s foreign policy advisor Yuri Ushakov said President Putin told Biden that Washington had failed to take Moscow’s concerns into account, and had not received substantial answer on critical elements like NATO’s expansion and deployment of offensive forces to Ukraine.

Prime Minister Imran khan calls for provision of assistance to Afghan people

Prime Minister Imran Khan says provision of assistance to Afghan people is a collective responsibility of the world community.

Interacting with former diplomats and representatives of think tank in Islamabad today, he said that everyone agrees to save Afghanistan from a humanitarian crisis and if the situation worsens, the United States will also face difficulties.

Talking about his recent visit to China, he said he paid successful visit to Beijing, which carries utmost importance keeping in view rapid growing relations between the two countries.

The Prime Minister said that Chinese leadership had expressed full confidence on Pakistan’s national economy, which is moving in right direction.

Talking about Covid-19, the Prime Minister said that the government dealt with the global pandemic under well-coordinated smart lockdown strategy, which was acknowledged by global community.

Talking about national economy, he said the government is working tirelessly to increase revenue while meetings are being held regularly to create wealth creation aiming to increase national exports.  

Earlier, in his welcome address, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said the government is committed to complete all ongoing projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. 

He said some anti-state elements are trying to destabilize the project, but government will foil their nefarious designs. 

In his remarks, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said new projects have been initiated while new transmission lines and roads have been built under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin, in his address, said that China helped Pakistan in building its damaged infrastructure, and the government will address all the issues being faced by Chinese investors in Pakistan.

International Symposium on Pakistan’s Hydropower Development in Global Perspective will be held tomorrow on Monday.

In a tweet on Sunday, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib said the dam experts from the United States, Australia, Switzerland, Turkey and China will participate in the Symposium.

He said the symposium is aimed at showcasing the high-end-technical and financial strategies for unprecedented hydropower and water storage development in Pakistan.

He said Prime Minister Imran Khan is working tirelessly for bright future of coming generation producing cheaper electricity in the country. He said ten dams are being built after 1967 and production of power will rise from 9500 megawatt to 20800 after completion of these dams.

Army Chief pays tribute to people of Kashmir on Kashmir Solidarity Day

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Saturday has paid tribute to people of Kashmir, their resolve and valiant struggle on Kashmir Solidarity Day.

In a message on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day, the army chief has condemned the human rights violations and lockdown in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K).

“Time has come to end this human tragedy and resolve Kashmir issue as per aspirations of people of the valley and United Nations (UN) resolutions, he added. 

On the other hand, Kashmir Solidarity Day is being observed today to express whole-hearted support of Pakistani nation to the just struggle of Kashmiri people for their inalienable right to self-determination.

Saudi Interior Minister to visit Pakistan on 7 february

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Interior Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz will arrive in Pakistan on Feb 7.

The Saudi minister will be visiting Islamabad at the invitation of his Pakistani counterpart Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed.

During his stay in the federal capital, the Saudi interior minister will hold meetings with key government and security officials. He will call on President Dr. Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He will also visit the Ministry of Interior office where he will met Sheikh Rasheed. The regional situation, bilateral ties and the release of Pakistani nationals languishing in Saudi prisons will come under discussion during these meetings.

It is noteworthy that in Dec, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan visited Islamabad to attend the extraordinary session of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

Prime Minister Imran Khan to leave for China tomorrow on a four day visit

Prime Minister Imran Khan, at the special invitation of the Chinese leadership, will leave for China tomorrow on a four-day visit from February 3 to February 6 to attend the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games.

The Prime Minister will be accompanied by a high-level delegation including members of the Cabinet and senior government officials.

As a global event, the Olympic Games foster mutual understanding, inclusivity and friendship among the peoples of the world.

Beijing will soon become the first city to host both summer and winter editions of the Olympic Games.

During the visit, the Prime Minister will hold bilateral meetings with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang.

The leaders will review the entire gamut of bilateral relations, with a particular focus on stronger trade and economic cooperation including CPEC.

They will also have wide-ranging exchange of views on major regional and international issues.

It would thus renew the bilateral commitment to taking the iron-clad partnership between Pakistan and China to new heights and add impetus to cooperation across multiple domains. A number of MoUs and Agreements would be concluded during the visit.

While in Beijing, the Prime Minister would also meet prominent business leaders of China and representatives of leading Chinese think-tanks, academia and the media.

He will also have other bilateral interactions on the sidelines.

The Prime Minister’s visit would mark the culmination of celebrations commemorating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, with more than 140 events organized to showcase the resilience of the All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and the unfolding international situation.

Pakistan witnesses highest ever Textile exports in January 2022

Pakistan’s textile exports have reached new heights after they reached USD 1.55 billion in January 2022, the highest ever exports from the sector in a month.

The details were shared by Senator Faisal Javed Khan, a close confidante of Prime Minister Imran Khan, from his Twitter handle.

While sharing a graph of textile exports in the country, Faisal Javed shared that the country’s exports have reached a record high in a month after they reached USD 1.55 billion in January 2022.

“Pakistan has already left behind India and Bangladesh in the export of textile goods to the United States and European countries,” he said.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan’s textile exports are expected to hit new heights after orders from regional competitors, Indian and Bangladesh, are being diverted to the country owing to the COVID pandemic and facilitation provided to the sector from the incumbent government.

Justice Umar Atta Bandial takes oath as 28th Chief Justice of Pakistan

Justice Umar Ata Bandial has been sworn in as the 28th Chief Justice of Pakistan. He will serve until September 16, 2023.

The oath-taking ceremony was held at the President House in Islamabad and was attended by Prime Minister Imran Khan, current and former judges of the Supreme Court and other members of the legal fraternity.

President Arif Alvi administered the oath.

President Arif Alvi and PM Imran Khan congratulated Justice Umar Ata Bandial and assured him of their support.

The three services chiefs saluted him.

Later, the chief justice arrived at the Supreme Court where he was given a guard of honour.

FBR tax collection grows by 30.4% as compared to same period last year

The FBR has successfully maintained the momentum of its growth trajectory in revenue collection.

According to the spokesperson of the FBR, the supreme tax collection body collected Rs3,352 billion against its set target of Rs3,090 billion. This represents a growth of about 30.4% over the collec­tion of Rs. 2,571 billion during the same period, last year.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) exceeded its seven-month net tax collection target by Rs262 billion.

FBR collected a tax of Rs430 billion in the month of January 2022 as compared to the collection of Rs367 billion in the same period of the previous year. The data showed an increase of 17.2% tax collection in the month of January.

It is pertinent to mention that FBR has introduced a number of innovative interventions both at policy and operational level with a view to maximizing revenue potential through digitization, transparency, and taxpayers’ facilitation.
