Two newborn babies have died after hospitals refused to admit their Muslim mothers amid a surge in coronavirus-related Anti-Muslims sentiments in India.
In Jharkhand state, a Muslim woman miscarried after she was barred from receiving treatment in MGM Hospital in the city of Jamshedpur.
Rizwana Khatun, 30, had rushed to the hospital after she began bleeding. Accused of spreading coronavirus, she was also beaten and asked to clean up her own blood.
Earlier, In Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district, A 33-year-old woman lost her baby after doctors at a government hospital turned her away on learning that she was a Muslim.
The woman’s husband, Irfan Khan, said that his wife had to deliver their child in an ambulance that was taking her to Jaipur, 187km from Bharatpur, after the doctors at the Zenana Hospital denied her admission and refused to treat her for being a Muslim.
Ruling Bhartiya Janta party (BJP) has been constantly linking Coronavirus with Muslims in India which caused an increased Anti-Muslims sentiments in India.
