In a positive development for trade and economy of Pakistan, Ministry of Commerce has operationalized Gwadar Port for Afghan Transit Trade.

Adviser to PM on Commerce and Investment, Abdul Razak Dawood announced it via tweet, “I am pleased to share with you that Ministry of Commerce has operationalized Gwadar Port for Afghan Transit Trade under APTTA 2010.”

He further said, “Shipments of Sugar, Fertiliser & Wheat will be transported in sealed trucks to Afghanistan. In this regard, 16000 MT of DAP and WFP cargo of 500,000 MT Wheat for Afghanistan will arrive next month. Ships from China will also offload at Gwadar.”

The adviser said that that the move fulfills long standing request of the business community and the shipping industry of the country and it will also pave the way for generating business opportunities & employment both in Gwadar and along the highways.

He said that The move will also jumpstart port operations in Gwadar Port and create the necessary eco-system for another big seaport of Pakistan.

Earlier this week, Pakistan had opened its border crossing with Afghanistan for the revival of trade activities on the request of Afghan government. The trade activities were restored after 40 days closure of the border due to outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.
